How Animal was Obtained:
When I was a kid, I'd always wanted a kitten. Sure, I'd had rats and dogs, but..I wanted a kitty, simply because my family had never had one and I had no idea what owning one would be like. First, I purchased a two month old female gray tabby from the pound, who I named Kittles.

Kittles had caught something from the shelter, and I'm not sure what it was, but she grew very, very sick in a short amount of time.
Eventually, she could barely open her eyes, she couldn't control her bladder, or much else; for that matter. I couldn't stand seeing her suffer like that for more than two and a half days, so after getting her checked by a vet, we were told that whichever disease she had was incurable. I was far too young to remember exactly what it was, although I know I would have loved to have been able to cure it for her. As I couldn't, I decided to do the only humane thing possible in that situation -- have her put down and out of her misery.

Not long after that, I suppose my mom felt guilty about the only kitten I'd ever owned having been so unhealthy; and though that I deserved the chance to show her that I could take care of one if it was in good health.

Late one night after reading an interesting clipping in the newspaper, my mom drove me over to a small steet, where and even smaller house was.
I remember running into the house and seeing the floor simply littered with ten little kittens, all black and extremely fuzzy. I was overjoyed, but couldn't pick. They were all the same other than the mix of pale blue and lime green eyes; and didn't seem to have any extra-ordinairy personality.

So, I decided to sit down on the couch for a bit and watch them; see who I liked best and which one liked /me/ the best by coming to me and such.
Then, I saw her. Two dark green eyes peering out at me from behind the television set, blinking as the little fuzzball with the white face tilted her head all kinds of ways, as if trying to get a better look at me.
I then got in the floor and crawled over to her slowly, hoping I wouldn't scare her; then she ran at me and jumped under me, swatting at me and trying to play. She was the only one with any white on her at all other than her mother, and I couldn't help but choose to adopt her. ^^

Notes:
Emerald is nine now, and ever since she turned two, she's been very independant, and even arrogant. She prefered to keep her own company, despite hanging out with a bunch of 15-pound tomcats she seemed to order around to do her bidding. XD
She's not very social, but she likes me and my mom alright.
For some reason, she's fascinated with wet hair; and if you have any while you're sitting on a couch or recliner, be prepared to have it chewed and rubbed on. n_n
Emerald also neglects to do more to her fur other than lick it a bit instead of keeping it neat; so we have to get her shaved once a year because she gets such bad mats in her coat.
