How Animal was Obtained: It all started when some friends of my father's brought their new puppy over. He was a little brown thing with a dark brown muzzle and tail-tip. I loved the little thing, and me and my dad's friend's son played with him in my back yard for a while.
A few days later, my mom woke me up and asked if I wanted one of that puppy's brothers or sisters, and, being no older than ten, I said yes in a heartbeat.
We drove out into the country, where my dad's friend had told us that this person had been neglecting his dog, that just had a litter of pups from a wild Akita that roamed around out there. He wasn't feeding any of them except the mother, and the pups were too young to eat her hard food, yet her milk was all ready drying up.
So, I climbed the fence and took one of the pups. My choice was the little black, white and brown one; the only one that had any other color on her other than different shades of brown.
I crawled back out, carrying the little fifteen-pound ball of fur in my arms. When mom asked if she was the one I really wanted, I had no intentions of changing my mind.
Not long after, we'd encouraged everyone that my parents knew to take a pup as well, and actually give it a good home instead of nearly starving it to death as their owner was doing to them. We still have contact with Akita's big brother's owner. His name is Jake, and my cousin in Colorado owns him, and a golden retriever called Buster.
Notes: Akita didn't get a name until a good week after I adopted her, and by then, she was so intelligent, she had all ready picked up on us calling her "the Little Akita", which would be the name of her breed that she most resembled as a pup.
We didn't even call her by this as a name, just referred to her as such, and within a few /days/, she began responding and coming to it, but absolutely ignoring anything else. After that, it just stuck.
Akita is our fearless and courageous alpha female. She's not the oldest or even the biggest, but she's by far the most dominant -- not aggressive, but dominant. She rules the pack and doesn't even have to demand that they follow her -- they obey her automatically.
She's very smart, and truly knows a lot, even though she can be stubborn and sometimes likes to pretend that she doesn't. She's very loyal and protective, and I would feel sorry for anyone who would dare be stupid enough to break into this house in the middle of the night.
She's not the type to warm up to people quickly, and when she approaches you, it's on her terms, and no one else's. She's a great judge of character, and tends to know a bad person from a good one.
She truly is the guard of the house with Shadey and Nova backing her up, and no one leaves or enters without her letting everyone know about it. She's a great dog, and once you've managed to gain her trust and befriend her, you've got a friend for life.
